What's on the Website: "In the spirit of tenacity and camaraderie, Mettle was first created to highlight the milestone of our inaugural year as a brewery. With an intense dual dry-hop treatment of Amarillo and Citra, this medium-bodied Double IPA beckons with aromatics of peach and nectarine. A fusion of grape juice and candied citrus greet the palate while accents of white-wine, grassy hop, and a mellow bitterness reveal themselves on a smooth, dry finish. We continue to brew Mettle in recognition of our devoted following of hopheads that have supported us from the very beginning." Read more here!

REVIEW:
Appearance (5%): Poured hazy peach-colored into a pint glass. White head. 4.5/5

Smell (25%): Mostly tropical peach, nectarine, with creamy and dank notes. 4.75/5

Taste (40%): Dank tropical. Tons of tropical peach, nectarine, and citrus. Full of tropical flavor from start to finish. Exactly what I want in a New England-style IPA. 5/5

Mouthfeel (10%): Medium-bodied, some carbonation. The slightest dry tongue, but mainly juicy tropical. Some controlled dank citrus bitterness lingers in a pleasing way. 4.5/5

Overall (20%): A world-class Double IPA. Trillium has now been checked off my ever-growing beer list, and it quickly made a lasting impression. The powerful citrus, peach, and nectarine here is all but branded into my brain. Mettle also validated all of the New England-style IPAs I've enjoyed from breweries on the West Coast, namely from places like Great Notion here in the Portland (Oregon) area. For people in Oregon, the ABV is comparable to Great Notion's Juice Box, and I'd consider drinking Juice Box again real soon to more accurately compare it to Mettle. Trillium was on the list for my upcoming trip before getting this beer, but now it's basically shot to the top of that list. This is a very dangerous, very drinkable Double IPA. In other words, go get it now. 5/5

Final Weighted Rating: 4.863/5
