What's on the Can/Website: "This West Coast Style IPA doesn’t shy away from the traditional bitterness of a true IPA while at the same time showcasing bold tropical fruit character. The beer starts off with a nose of ripe tropical fruit, including Pineapple and Papaya. Mango and nectarine follow through on the palate along with notes of cantaloupe and honeydew rounding it out. Nothing is held back with the bright, medium body that allows the showcase of fruit character to shine through. No fruit was harmed during the making of this beer because Hops the New Fruit!" REVIEW:
Appearance (5%):
Poured slightly hazy golden into a pint glass. Frothy white head, good
lacing at the top of the glass. 4.25/5Smell (25%): Lovely tropical stone fruit and pineapple. 4.25/5
Taste (40%): Good tropical pineapple to start, slight dank in the middle. Aftertaste has controlled hoppy bitterness (citrus peel?) with tropical. 4.25/5
Mouthfeel (10%): Medium-bodied, some carbonation. Not much dry tongue. 4.25/5
Overall (20%): An excellent IPA. I really liked the drinkability and controlled hoppy nature of Hops the New Fruit. You'll get some tropical here and not just a big ol' hop bomb. Admittedly, I hoped for just a bit more flavor; it didn't quite hit the epic or memorable echelon. However, it remains a solid choice that IPA fans should enjoy. Thumbs up to the aftertaste. Reasonable price. 4.25/5
Final Weighted Rating: 4.25/5
