What's on the Can: "You can't help but be tempted by our Captain's Daughter. Her full body. Her exquisite bouquet. Brewed with Mosaic and Citra hops, her allure is as fresh as it is intriguing. Yet, she commands respect. Try to take advantage of her and she'll put you in your place. We raised our daughter well!"

What's on the Website: "Our newest year-round is an Imperial India Pale Ale brewed with high-quality pilsner malt and flaked oats, making this beer light in color but certainly not in body or alcohol content. It is aggressively hopped with Mosaics out of the Pacific Northwest, giving the Captain’s Daughter a strong aroma and flavor of tropical and stone fruits." Read more here!

Where distributed: As of December 2017, Grey Sail Brewing distributes only within Rhode Island and Connecticut. Click here to see where!

REVIEW:
Appearance (5%): Poured hazy light orange into a pint glass. Looks like a New England-style IPA (but it is not). Unfiltered; sediment suspended in the beer. White head; some lacing. 4.25/5

Smell (25%): Lots of tropical grapefruit, tangerine, and pineapple. Complementing hoppy malt. 4.75/5

Taste (40%): Very grapefruit forward and  tropical heavy. Faint hints of peach and papaya. Balanced malt experience. Citrus tangerine and grapefruit on aftertaste. Amazing flavor throughout. 4.75/5

Mouthfeel (10%): Medium-bodied, some carbonation. Slight dry tongue; controlled citrus bitterness lingers. 4.25/5

Overall (20%): An outstanding to world-class Double IPA. Grey Sail is one of the few Rhode Island breweries I knew about before going on my New England trip in late August, and I made sure that this brewery was on my list of places to visit. Frankly, the unique, homey feel of Grey Sail's taproom is the huge draw. I have visited several states and have never seen anything like this. To enjoy a tulip glass of Captain's Daughter while at the brewery was an awesome experience, and I just had to take a 4-pack of the beer home with me. I frankly enjoyed the cans I took home more than the one I had on draft in Westerly. Well played, Grey Sail. 4.5/5

Final Weighted Rating: 4.625/5
