What's on the Bottle: "Tyranny is absolute power vested in a single ruler. This Red India Pale Ale commands all authority, relegated in unflinching decrees of dank, resinous hops and the absolute foundation of crimson and crystal malts. Balanced unlike any ruler before, there is no chink in its hop-fortified armor. Surrender to Tyranny is unconditional."
REVIEW:
Appearance (5%): Poured a clear amber color with crimson tones. A few millimeters of off-brown head, reduces to a sudsy surface. Leaves some lacing on the glass. 4/5
Smell (25%): Wonderful citrus-hop (passion fruit), pine, and malty aromas. Very balanced. 4.5/5
Taste (40%): A lovely balance of pine, citrus-hop, and malt qualities. Slight dank experience, with traces of alcohol detected. Aftertaste is a controlled bitterness, predominantly piney and citrus. 4/5
Mouthfeel (10%): Medium body, slightly malty, some carbonation. 4.25/5
Overall (20%): A solid red IPA. I personally prefer Pernicious over this, but I appreciate the balance and pine-citrus blast this one brings. $2.50 for this could be on the pricey side, but well worth it for the quality and the reputation Wicked Weed has. A North Carolina trip may be in the cards someday. 4.25/5
Final Weighted Rating: 4.2/5
