What's on the Bottle: "INSURRECTION is an Imperial IPA charged with 3 lbs per barrel of Nelson Sauvin and Mosaic hops. Bolstered by a 9.0% ABV malt brigade and finished with an over-the-top explosion of citrus, tropical fruit, and sauvignon blanc, this 95 IBU uprising leaves you no choice but to surrender to the hop rebellion."

What's on the Website: "As much as we love brewing subtle, balanced beers, now and then we need to shake up the establishment. Insurrection's flavor profile is spearheaded by Nelson Sauvin and Mosaic hops added at a rate of over 3 pounds per barrel. Both hops are new breeds that overwhelm the senses with an onslaught of citrus, sauvignon blanc, and blueberry notes. Loads of 2-row barley and a touch of honey malt combine to form a serious malt backbone and an ABV of 8.6%." Click here for more!

REVIEW:
Appearance (5%): Poured a hazy copper into a pint glass. Frothy white to off-white head. Some lacing remaining on the glass. 4.5/5

Smell (25%): Tropical grapefruit and pineapple with complementing malt. 4.5/5

Taste (40%): Tropical hop-forward experience, with grapefruit and pineapple to start, and a bit of orange-tangerine on the back end. Subtle malt, but yet probably right around the ideal amount. Whether this is 8.6% or 9.0%, it drinks very easy and refreshing. Some bitterness but never too bitter. Not much sign of octane here. A dangerous brew. 4.75/5

Mouthfeel (10%): Medium-bodied; subtle carbonation. Tropical bitterness sticks on the tongue. 4.75/5

Overall (20%): An outstanding to world-class Double IPA. This was actually not my first choice, as the original option I wanted was sold out. I'm obviously happy that I got this; the ratings on Beer Advocate (91) and RateBeer (96) don't lie. Insurrection seems to have everything I want in a good Double IPA. I'd drink this any time of the year. 4.75/5

Final Weighted Rating: 4.675/5
