What's on the Can: "Dear Enjoyer, 2X4 has a stupid amount of hops, layered on a light malt base that gives way to notes of pine, citrus and tropical fruit. While there are many great beer styles from the past, think of this as a beer from the future. DON'T HATE, PARTY."

What's on the Website: "Dear (insert your name here), This is the best damn DIPA in the world. So if you were even considering sulking today, think again. Our 2x4 Double IPA is the Gold Winner of numerous note-worthy awards, including the Alpha King Championship; two years in a row and counting. You'd be crazy not to drink this. So close your eyes, open up, and experience the mad floral, citrusy, and clean taste of hop talent. If you don't love it, no......you will."

Where distributed: Melvin Brewing still has somewhat limited distribution. Since I moved in November 2019, Melvin does not yet ship to where I am.

REVIEW:
Appearance (5%): Poured mostly clear golden into a pint glass. White head, virtually no lacing. 4.25/5

Smell (25%): Dank and hop-forward with underlying citrus grapefruit and pine. Complementing malt. Still the same all these years. 5/5

Taste (40%): Follows the nose. Dank and hop-forward, with tropical and pine swooping in right after. Tropical seems more than just grapefruit or citrus peel, perhaps even lychee or stone fruit notes detected. This time, I do not get any octane. Hop bitterness sticks around but is pleasing. Lots of flavor. 5/5

Mouthfeel (10%): Medium-full bodied, good carbonation. Leaves a dry tongue. 4.25/5

Overall (20%): A world-class Double IPA. Frankly, this confirms how some of my ratings have evolved, while other aspects may remain the same. In the nearly five years since the October 2016 review, I've tasted hundreds of IPAs and have still casually enjoyed Melvin 2x4 whenever available on draft. The quality remains the same, and I probably enjoy it a tad more now that I can't get it all the time. 4.75/5

Final Weighted Rating: 4.838/5
