What's on the Can: "It was the West of times. It was the East of times. It's time now to bring the best of both together...Release the hound!"
What's on the Website: "What fresh freak of nature is this?! Hazy flavors without the haze? West Coast hopping without mega bitterness? Quite the contrary kaiju towering before you. Double dry-hopped with a fruity blast of Citra & Mosaic, yet finishes super smooth. This beast is truly the best of both worlds…Release the hound!"
Where distributed: Lagunitas Brewing distributes throughout most of the United States.
Smell (25%): Blend of tropical, dank, and malty. Malt takes more center stage, but not extremely overpowering. 4.25/5
Taste (40%): Initially malty and dank, but not too much octane. Then a wave of bright citrus and citrus peel that continues into the aftertaste. Aftertaste brings out more of the stone fruit, such as peach and mango flavors. 4.25/5
Mouthfeel (10%): Full-bodied, some carbonation. Very juicy with almost no dry tongue. 4.5/5
Overall (20%): An excellent Double IPA. I'm a fan of the multi-layered flavor experience here. As advertised, this one brings all the juiciness of an East Coast IPA and the clarity of the West Coast. You'll get the 8% right away, but octane still well-controlled. 4.25/5
Final Weighted Rating: 4.275/5
