What's on the Website: "Old school meets new school in this fresh approach to the classic IPA. At 50 IBU's and 6.7 ABV, Breaking Bud features the restrained bitterness and alcohol of a classic IPA with newer tropical fruit hop flavors and aromas of Mosaic. Also in the hop mix are Simcoe and CTZ, creating layers of mango, passion fruit, pine and dank. A malt bill with a pinch of crystal malt and a hefty dose of flaked wheat keeps the beer crisp while adding flavor complexity."
REVIEW:
Appearance (5%):
Poured a mostly clear golden color into a pint glass. A few millimeters of frothy white head. Lots of tiny bubbles. Splotchy lacing around the bottom 2/3 of the glass. 4.5/5Smell (25%): Citrus-hoppy, sweet, some dankness. Even on smell, it's wonderfully balanced. 4.5/5
Taste (40%): Starts a controlled citrus-bitter hoppy, with velvety and dank qualities. Citrus detected includes grapefruit and passion fruit. A lovely smooth finish with refreshing citrus aftertaste. No alcohol detected. Complex, yet balanced and delicious. 4.75/5
Mouthfeel (10%): A medium-bodied malty experience that coats the tongue well. Significant carbonation on the tongue and a refreshing choice. Solid. 4.5/5
Overall (20%): A world-class Double IPA. I was a big fan of the refreshing qualities that I would usually associate with Mosaic hops, yet a pine-dankness brought (as advertised) complexity and a more well-rounded experience. Love the balance this beer has. Creative label and a nice pun on Breaking Bad. Would totally recommend to others. 4.75/5
Final Weighted Rating: 4.65/5
