What's on the Can: "A golden/amber beer that showcases bold American hops with the extra flavor of 20% rye malt. This is a shockingly balanced IPA, with just enough malt character to counter the intense hoppiness typically found in an American IPA, for an immensely pleasant experience for your palate."
What's on the Website: "A golden/amber beer that showcases bold American hops with the extra flavor dimension of the use of dry malt as 20% of the malt bill. This is a shockingly balanced IPA, in the sense that we include just enough malt character to counter the otherwise intense bitterness typically found in an American IPA, making for an immensely pleasant experience for your palate." REVIEW:Appearance (5%): Poured hazy light-copper in to a pint glass. Frothy off-white head. Some lacing on the glass. 4/5
Smell (25%): Tropical grapefruit and pine, some malt. Solid. 3.75/5
Taste (40%): Hop-forward, with tropical grapefruit and pine. Malty, slightly bready on the back end, instead of the citrus bitterness I am used to. Rye totally there. More octane felt as I keep drinking this. OK flavor throughout, more indifferent on the back end. 3.5/5
Mouthfeel (10%): Medium-bodied, with good carbonation. 4/5
Overall (20%): A fine IPA. This was one I probably enjoyed more initially, but then became a bit more indifferent to it as I kept drinking it. While the Rye IPA has its positives and I'm happy that I tried it, there are many others I've had that I would grab first before getting this again. 3.5/5
